School exchanges

This page is for University of Nottingham students who would like to spend part of their degree in another country. If you are studying outside the UK and would like to spend part of your degree at Nottingham, please see our section for visiting students .

The School Exchange programme offers full-time undergraduate students the opportunity to study at a partner university in another country for one semester or one academic year.

These exchanges are coordinated by the relevant School/Department, and are organised outside of the Erasmus , Universitas 21 and University-wide exchange programmes.

Typically, the study abroad period is for the full academic year, and forms part of a part of a four-year degree programme.

Where can I study abroad?

At present School exchanges are offered in the USA, Canada, Latin America and Australia amongst other countries. For information on whether School exchanges are offered by your School/Department please see Study Abroad Opportunities by School .

Academic information

Each School/Department participating in the programme has a member of academic staff who acts as the School Coordinator. The School Coordinator is responsible for the exchange agreement with the partner university, agreeing your academic study while abroad and for providing advice and support on all academic matters. You should to liaise with your School Coordinator to find suitable modules at your host university and confirm your programme of study with them prior to application. For some Schools the credits gained while studying abroad will count back towards your Nottingham degree.

How to apply

The School exchange programme is run by individual Schools/Departments. Students are advised to speak to their School Coordinator for information on the selection process and internal deadlines. If you are selected to study abroad your name will be forwarded to your host university by your academic School. Your allocated host university will then send application information in due course.

How much will it cost?

Students who are accepted to study abroad continue to pay tuition fees to The University of Nottingham; no fees are payable to the host university. Students who study abroad for the full year should be eligible for a tuition fee reduction.

There are two specific scholarships available to students who are applying to study abroad in the USA or Canada:
